Donated artwork sought for auction supporting Black Glass Artist Series

Organizers of the Black Glass Artist Series, during which glass artists of color will come to the Alfred University campus for one-week residencies throughout the spring 2023 semester, are holding an auction of artwork to raise funds to support the series.

October Wednesday Speaker Series

The Weekly Wednesday Arts Speaker Series presented by the School of Art & Design + Performing Arts Division features a line. The events take place every Wednesday evening at 7pm in Nevins Theater. In the series, faculty, staff, visiting artists and scholars present short talks on their creative practice. The series aims to engage the Alfred community by creating a unique sharing space focusing on the arts.

Compassion in Action Exhibition and Performance at the Sceneography Gallery

"Compassion in Action", an exhibit and performance of work by Sharon Kagan will be on view in the Sceneography Gallery, Miller Performing Arts Center fro October 10 through December 9, 2022. The performance "Release Me" will take place October 10 - 14 from 10 am-3 pm.

Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are! a Collection of Queer Art

The Alfred Queer Art collective's Fall 2022 exhibition "Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are!" on view in the Robert C. Turner Gallery October 7 - 14, commemorates the work of queer artists and the fight for LGBTQIA liberation. The exhibition will take place on the anniversary of the historical, "Great Marches," in Washington D.C in the late 1970s.

Maureen Weiss, associate professor of performance, design and technology in Alfred University’s School of Art and Design, Performing Arts Division, has curated an exhibition of work by artist Sharon Kagan.

Dennis James Silent Film Concert Phantom of the Opera

Just in time for Halloween: Internationally renowned theatre organist and silent film accompanist, Dennis James will appear in concert to perform in Holmes Auditorium, Harder Hall on Thursday, October 13 at 7:30 pm.

IDEA Lab Presents Fall semester events

IDEA Lab presents its program schedule for the fall semester, 2022. IDEA Lab is an overarching umbrella for cultivating a diverse and inclusive environment providing co-teaching and co-learning experiences as part of an Anti-Racist Program at the School of Art & Design + Performing Arts Division at Alfred.

Open Draw Returns to the Brick Every Friday

Open Draw: Friday Night Figure Drawing is a free figure drawing session, open to AU students of any major as well as the Alfred Community every Friday evening at 5:30 pm on the First Floor of the Brick. Come practice your drawing skills! Bring your own drawing supplies.

Exhibitions on view in the Harland Snodgrass Gallery

A rotating series of exhibitions are on view in the TSI Harland Snodgrass Gallery in Harder Hall throughout the semester. Time Space Interface (TSI) Harland Snodgrass Gallery is located in the lobby level of Harder Hall on the Alfred University campus. Harland Snodgrass was founder of the Media Program in the School of Art and Design and was an original faculty member of the School’s Foundations Program. He served as professor of painting and video arts from 1969-85.

Institute for Electronic Arts October Residents

The Institute for Electronic Arts is bringing a number of artists in residence during the month of October. The Institute for Electronic Art’s Experimental Projects Residency is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature, and the Schein-Joseph Endowment.

October Art Walk

The Alfred Art Walk returns on Thursday, October 20 from 5-8pm. The Art Walk features a large number of events and is free and open to the public.

Annual Flower City Pottery Invitational features Alfred University artists

The Flower City Arts Center located in Rochester, NY presents for the fifth year, 18 premier ceramic artists from across North America, including several with ties to Alfred for a long weekend celebrating the best in contemporary clay. The event includes a special artist reception on October 21, and sale, pottery exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops and talks by the visiting artists throughout the October 22&23 weekend.

Underhill exhibition at Alfred Ceramic Art Museum subject of upcoming tour

Coral Lambert, Professor of Sculpture at Alfred University, will conduct a tour of the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum’s exhibition “William Underhill: Casting a Legacy” at 6 pm Oct. 20. at the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum.

Alfred Ceramic Art Museum awards inaugural Jerome Ackerman Internship

The Alfred Ceramic Art Museum has awarded the inaugural Jerome Ackerman Internship to Frank E. Pecoraro-Frayre, a third-year student from Sacramento, CA, studying art and design with a focus on ceramic art and a minor in mathematics.

Xiaowen Chen co-curates Beijing Art and Technology Biennale

The inaugural Beijing Art and Technology Biennale (BATB) will be held at 798CUBE from September 22, 2022 to January 31, 2023. With its theme "Synthetic Ecology," this inaugural edition will be directed by Xiewei Song and Hera Lee, and co-curated by Xiaowen Chen, professor of printmaking in Alfred University's School of Art and Design, and Naiyi Wang.

Neil Jacobs, world renowned 12-string guitarist, to perform in concert, deliver Bergren Forum

Neil Jacobs, internationally recognized 12-string guitarist, will perform a concert on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Alfred University’s Miller Theater. The concert, part of Jacobs’ three-day residency on campus, is free and open to the public.

Alfred University, Division of Performing Arts, Department of Dance is partnering with SUNY Brockport to sponsor performances by the Urban Bush Women Dance Company on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16 and 17, at Harwell Dance Theater at Suny Brockport.

Afro-Semitic Experience band to perform concert, give drumming workshop

Afro-Semitic Experience—a band that combines an eclectic array of styles, sophisticated musicianship, good songwriting, deep grooves, and years of friendship with a simple message: “Unity in the Community”—will perform a concert on the Alfred University campus on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
