An exhibition of ceramic art by faculty, staff and technical specialists in Alfred University’s School of Art and Design opens Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Fosdick-Nelson Gallery in Harder Hall.

Alfred Art Walk, which takes place the third Thursday of every month from 5-8pm in Alfred, will take place on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Ed Lebow ’76, an award-winning arts writer, scholar, and lecturer, will deliver the 18th Perkins Lecture sponsored by the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum and titled “William Underhill: The Geometry of Beauty.” The lecture will take place on Thursday Nov. 17 at 4:30pm in Nevins Theater on the Alfred University campus and is free to all students, faculty, and University personnel as well as the public.

While in residence, Hallowell will have work on view in the TSI Harland Snodgrass Gallery and will give a hybrid analog + digital Live audio-visual performance on the Sandin IP with Eric Souther, Associate Professor of Video Art.

Alfred University will host the second annual Light Matter Film Festival Nov. 4-6. The three-day event will present 70 experimental films and media art works from 20 countries.
|

The IEA (Institute for Electronic Arts) has two experimental project residency programs, one for electronic media and one for print media. Both programs support artists with a one or two-week residency, an artist stipend, travel-support, lodging, technology access, materials, and technical assistance. Artists have access to a combination of emerging, contemporary, and historical media arts tools and materials, many are unique and not ordinarily available in a studio setting. The resident artists have 24-hour dedicated access to the IEA studio and equipment.

D. Chase Angier, professor of dance at Alfred University, has been selected to be an international juror for the Prague Quadrennial, scheduled for June 2023 in Prague, Czech Republic.

The inaugural Beijing Art and Technology Biennale (BATB) will be held at 798CUBE from September 22, 2022 to January 31, 2023. With its theme "Synthetic Ecology," this inaugural edition will be directed by Xiewei Song and Hera Lee, and co-curated by Xiaowen Chen, professor of printmaking in Alfred University's School of Art and Design, and Naiyi Wang.

Mary Johnson, director of Foundations in the Alfred University School of Art and Design, presented a project at the 2022 SECAC Conference (formerly the Southeastern College Art Conference) and had work in an exhibition at the Greater Denton Arts Council.

Gerar Edizel, Professor of Art History in the Alfred University School of Art and Design, delivered an invited lecture, "Cultural Appropriation in Art," to Clay Cohorts, a hybrid online and in-person teaching and support organization for artists.

Alfred University alumnus Eric Jones ’97 has won the Season 3 competition of Food Network’s “Outrageous Pumpkins” show, in which contestants are judged on their pumpkin-carving prowess.

Alfred University graduate Pearl Dick ’98, a glass artist based in Chicago, was featured on a recent airing of The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she talked about her glassblowing studio, which offers programs that encourage growth and healing in inner-city youth.

Alfred University alumna Tan Mu ’15, who earned a B.F.A. degree from Alfred University, has artwork currently being shown as a solo exhibition at Peres Projects in Berlin, Germany.
