Japanese ‘Nebuta’ inspires paper lantern sculptures created at Alfred Summer Arts Festival workshop

Large paper lanterns, depicting colorful birds, are being created in the Foundations space of Harder Hall throughout this week’s Alfred Summer Arts Festival: Making Meaning in an Uncertain World, which opened Sunday, July 10, and runs through Saturday, July 16.

Alfred Summer Arts Festival continues into weekend

Alfred University’s Summer Arts Festival, Making Meaning in an Uncertain World, continues Thursday, July 14, and into the weekend. Activities Thursday include “A Letter from the Treetops,” a performance at the Cohen Center for the Arts, on Alfred’s Main Street, featuring musical artist Jessie Chandler performing music from his recent album of the same name.

Alfred University appoints alumnus Mancuso dean of Graduate and Continuing Studies, AUNY

Alfred M. Mancuso, an alumnus of Alfred University, has been appointed dean of Graduate and Continuing Studies, AUNY, effective July 1. Mancuso takes over for Jay Cerio, who is retiring from the dean’s position. Cerio and Robert Bitting, associate director, Graduate and Continuing Studies, established the AUNY program in 2005.

Two artists visiting campus through BIPOC Summer Resident program

Alfred University’s School of Art and Design and Performing Arts Division announces two new artists visiting campus as part of the first annual BIPOC Summer Resident artists program. Adrian Aguilera and Jacoub Reyes will be on campus, working at the Cohen Studio on Main Street in Alfred, from July 18 to Aug. 10.
