Alfred University has received a plaque that once adorned the S.S. Alfred Victory ship, which was built during World War II and was part of the U.S. Navy’s fleet. The S.S. Alfred Victory was one of 531 Victory ships that served as cargo vessels and were part of the Navy’s Merchant Marine Fleet; 150 of the ships were named for educational institutions.

More than 100 students from seven area high schools were on the Alfred University campus Friday morning taking a 75-minute, 25-question math test. At stake for participants in the annual W. Varick Nevins III High School Math Competition were cash prizes and thousands of dollars in scholarships.

Alfred University alumna Mari McNinch ’07, a soil conservationist, will present at Friday’s Environmental Studies Speakers Series. The presentation—titled “What Are Soil Conservation Districts, and What Do They Do?”—is scheduled for 12:20 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in Roon Lecture Hall, Science Center, on the Alfred University campus.

Mary Johnson, director of Foundations in the Alfred University School of Art and Design, presented a project at the 2022 SECAC Conference (formerly the Southeastern College Art Conference) and had work in an exhibition at the Greater Denton Arts Council.

Gerar Edizel, Professor of Art History in the Alfred University School of Art and Design, delivered an invited lecture, "Cultural Appropriation in Art," to Clay Cohorts, a hybrid online and in-person teaching and support organization for artists.
