Edward Coll, Alfred University’s 12th president, passes away

Edward G Coll Jr., 12th president of Alfred University, passed away Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, in Gainesville, Georgia, at the age of 88. Coll served as president at Alfred University for 18 years, from 1982-2000. Under his leadership, the landscape of the University changed dramatically, both in terms of physical facilities and academic offerings.

Alfred University awarded $300,000 Emerson Foundation Grant

Alfred University has earned a $300,000 grant from the Fred L. Emerson Foundation to support the design and construction of a new foundry. The project will enhance the University’s art, design and engineering programs, while also replacing the central steam plant with a new, energy-efficient distributed boiler heating system.

New York State Council on the Arts honors Alfred University Associate Professor Eric Souther

Eric Souther ’11 (MFA), associate professor of Video Art at Alfred University, recently was honored by the New York State Council on the Arts for his project “Spiral of Deep Time,” which was selected for the NYSCA Individual Artist Grant in the Film, Media and New Technology category. The award is for NYSCA’s 2023 fiscal year.
