Alfred University art students team with other SUNY students to design illustrations for healthy living in a time of pandemic
Numerous students in the classes of Judy Livingston, Associate Professor of Expanded Media/Design at Alfred University’s School of Art and Design, participated in a project involving numerous students from other SUNY universities that led to creative illustrations of healthy practices during the COVID 19 pandemic.
Numerous students in the classes of Judy Livingston, Associate Professor of Expanded Media/Design at Alfred University’s School of Art and Design, participated in a project involving numerous students from other SUNY universities that led to creative illustrations of healthy practices during the COVID 19 pandemic.
Livingston, while preparing for the academic year 2020-21, reached out to SUNY colleagues to engage students proactively in protecting the health and safety of campus communities during this pandemic. A class project was built for students to create compelling designs to guide campus communities in complying with all COVID-19 safety precautions. In addition to Alfred University, participating SUNY campuses included SUNY Brockport, SUNY Cortland, and SUNY Purchase. Nearly 70 students from a variety of sophomore, junior, and senior-level design studios participated in the project.
The results are heartfelt and relatable student-to-student messages that inspire positive action. The diverse yet creative solutions to the assignment illustrate how the visual arts play a crucial role in the fabric of our social structure during this unprecedented health crisis. Several designs were cited and were selected to be displayed online at the SUNY Cortland Dowd Gallery website.
