Congressman Tom Reed ’93 pens opinion piece for New York Times arguing against Trump impeachment
Alfred University alumnus Tom Reed ’93, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, wrote an op-ed for the New York Times, published Monday (Jan. 11) in which he expresses his opposition to impeaching President Donald Trump. He reiterated his views in an interview during the Tuesday, Jan. 12, airing of the PBS News Hour program.

He reiterated his views in an interview during the Tuesday, Jan. 12, airing of the PBS News Hour program.
In the New York Times piece, titled "I Want Trump to Face Justice. But he House Shouldn’t Impeach Him", Reed, a Republican representing New York’s 23rd Congressional district, says that President Trump should face consequences for any role he may have played in the Jan. 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters.
In an interview with Judy Woodruff on Tuesday’s News Hour program, Reed restated his opposition to impeaching of President Trump, offering censure as an alternative.
Reed, who earned a B.S. degree in political science from Alfred University in 1993, was elected to Congress in 2010. He currently serves on the House Ways and Means committee as the Republican Leader of the Social Security Subcommittee.
