Alex Sich, a native of Alfred and a nuclear engineering student at MIT, will deliver the Feb 18 Bergren Forum, discussing the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of 1986.
Sich was the first Westerner to study the Chernobyl site in person. A strong critic of international responses to the disaster, he will explain why, to this day, the International Atomic Energy Agency is loath to admit it fell for Soviet propaganda regarding the effectiveness of accident management actions during the 10 days of massive releases of radioactive contamination directly to the environment.
An email will be sent to AU faculty, students and staff on the Monday and Thursday of the week of a Bergren forum with contact information for accessing the Zoom event. Others may secured the Zoom connection by emailing Marilyn Saxton.
