Alfred University Assistant Professor of Music Raul G. Barcenes recently delivered remote presentations at music education conferences hosted by the Arizona Music Educators Association and the Kentucky Music Educators Association.
Barcenes presented his session, Leading in a Culture that "Can't" Change: How to Successfully Navigate Your New Position Confidently Amongst Obstacles at both conferences.
“These presentations,” he writes, “are designed to help music educators philosophically reframe their perspectives to utilize best practices for teaching in situations in which there may be little to no relief. These include music education for at-risk populations, teaching in dangerous environments, student behaviors and approaches, and classroom organization. The presentations also provided real world examples of situations and how they were resolved or approached.”
Before his arrival at Alfred University in 2019, Barcenes held teaching positions at numerous institutions, including Nevada State College, Coastal Carolina University, Elon University and in California, Texas, and Nevada public schools.
