Virtual reading of play by Alfred University visiting professor set for March 14-21

WAM Theatre, Lenox, MA, will present a virtual staged reading of Rachel Lynett Spurgers’ play, “Letter to Kamala” March 14-21. Spurgers is assistant visiting professor of theater in Alfred University’s Division of Performing Arts; as a playwright, she goes by the pen name Rachel Lynett.


WAM Theatre, Lenox, MA, will present a virtual staged reading of Rachel Lynett Spurgers’ play, “Letter to Kamala” March 14-21. Spurgers is assistant visiting professor of theater in Alfred University’s Division of Performing Arts; as a playwright, she goes by the pen name Rachel Lynett.

The play tells the story of the tense lead up to the 2020 presidential election. Lynett conjures three female American political leaders of the past—Charlotta Bass, Charlene Mitchell, and Patsy Matsu Takemoto Mink—to share their wisdom, perspective, and wry humor with vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Bass is the first Black woman candidate for vice president; Mitchell, the first Black woman to run for president; and Mink the first woman of color to be elected to the House of Representatives, first Asian-American woman to run in Congress, and the first Asian-American to run for president.
