2021 Spirit of Service Award nominees and winners announced

Alfred University’s Gary Horowitz Service Learning Program and Alfred State College’s Center for Civic Engagement announces the nominees and recipients of the 2021 Spirit of Service Awards. The awards are given each year to students from Alfred University and Alfred State College, faculty and staff from Alfred University and Alfred State, and members of the Alfred community.
ALFRED, NY – Alfred University’s Gary Horowitz Service Learning Program and Alfred State College’s Center for Civic Engagement announces the nominees and recipients of the 2021 Spirit of Service Awards. The awards are given each year to students from Alfred University and Alfred State College, faculty and staff from Alfred University and Alfred State, and members of the Alfred community.
The Spirit of Service Awards honor the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and are presented to those who exemplify Dr. King’s guiding principles of equality, social justice, community, and service. Nominations are received from members of the Alfred community, Alfred University, and Alfred State College. 2021 Spirit of Service Award Nominees, and winners, include:
Alfred Community Nominees: Jane Cochran, Paul Weaver, Tony Graziano and the Alfred Pharmacy Staff.
Winners are: A.E. Crandall Hook and Ladder Co. Ambulance Service, and Tony Graziano and the Alfred Pharmacy Staff
Alfred University Nominees: Krishna Amin (Faculty/Staff), Mark Ciccarella (Student), Dan Napolitano (Faculty/Staff), Janu Patel (Student), Michele Hluchy and Sandra Singer (Faculty/Staff), Daisy Wu (Faculty/Staff).
Winners are: Daisy Wu, Janu Patel, and Mark Ciccarella
Alfred State College Nominees: Trey Moore (Student), Greg Sammons (Faculty/Staff).

Spirit of Service Awards are typically presented at the annual Celebration of Service event in late January. This year, in place of an in-person gathering, Alfred University’s Gary Horowitz Service Learning Program and Alfred State College’s Center for Civic Engagement recognize Spirit of Service nominees and announce the winners with this video presentation, created by Alfred University Service Learning graduate assistant Ashley Gomez.
