Alfred University dancers, designers give virtual performance for International Dance Day

Students in Alfred University’s Dance Department will perform today (Thursday, April 29) as part of International Dance Day. The virtual performance of “Beyond” is part of a four-hour slate of performances being streamed live to a worldwide audience beginning at noon (EST).


ALFRED, NY—Students in Alfred University’s Dance Department will perform today (Thursday, April 29) as part of International Dance Day. The virtual performance of “Beyond” is part of a four-hour slate of performances being streamed live to a worldwide audience beginning at noon (EST).

“Beyond” was created by Marianela Boan, 2020-2021 Marlin Miller Guest Artist, and was performed throughout Miller Performing Arts Center and shown for the International Dance Day Online Celebration.

The work, performed to the music of internationally-renowned cellist Yo Yo Ma, was created through the support of the Marlin Miller Dance Residency Program. D. Chase Angier, professor of dance and chair of the Performing Arts Division at Alfred University, is the artistic director for the program and Colleen Wahl, assistant professor of dance, is associate producer. This worked was originally created and performed in Mapping 2021: An Exhibition of Dance, which Angier, Wahl and associate professor of Performance, Design and Technology, Maureen Weiss, were co-Artistic Directors. Boan served as choreo-videographer.

The following Alfred University students participated in today’s performance of “Beyond”:
