Trustee Emeritus David Miller ’66 and daughter Rebecca DuMaine collaborate again on sixth jazz album

Alfred University Trustee Emeritus David Miller ’66 and his jazz combo The Dave Miller Trio have released their newest album, Someday Someday, a collection of jazz gems that is receiving excellent reviews not only for the smooth work of the Trio but for vocalist Rebecca DuMaine, daughter of Dave and his wife Elizabeth “Bebes” Miller ’65.

It is DuMaine's sixth collaboration with the Trio, and her impeccable voice and phrasing combined with her father's piano work is “a winning combination” (Joe Lang), an “insightful and delightfully swinging daughter and father duo” (Jonathan Widran). Add to the Dumaine/Miller pairing the talents of drummer Bill Belasco and bassist Chuck Bennett, and you get “a top notch jazz listen” (Tom Haugen) that pulls together jazz classics, vintage pop (DuMaine sings a lovely cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now”), and DuMaine’s own original “Someday Someday,” which speaks directly to the COVID-19 pandemic and asks ruefully if a return to normalcy will ever be possible.

Miller has been playing piano since his childhood years on Long Island and throughout his law practice with the Hanson Bridgett law firm in San Francisco. DuMaine began accompanying her father in the family home at the age of three and began singing with the Dave Miller Trio was she was 16. An actress by training, she is currently a Professor of Voice and Speech at the Academy of Art University, in San Francisco. Her past collaborations with the Trio include the 2019 Just Imagine and Chez Nous. The Trio plans to release another jazz CD, The Mask-erade is Over, later this year.
