Alfred University inducts 11 into counseling honor society

ALFRED, NY – Eleven graduate students in Alfred University’s Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling programs were recently welcomed as new members of into Chi Sigma Iota, the international counseling honor society.

At a ceremony held, April 16, the students were inducted into Alpha Upsilon Xi, Alfred University’s chapter of Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society International (CSI). Chapter Faculty Advisors Kevin Curtin, associate professor of counseling, and Angeline Felber, assistant professor of counseling, presided over the induction ceremony and were assisted by chapter officers and counseling students Johanna McCormick, Brittany Reinard, and Taylor Soderholm.

Felber acknowledged the accomplishments of the current chapter, citing members and officers for their leadership, advocacy, and service. Emma Wilson, M.S.Ed ’18, past president of the Alpha Upsilon Xi Chapter, delivered the keynote address.

CSI “promotes a strong professional identity through members who contribute to the realization of a healthy society by fostering wellness and human dignity,” Wilson said. “You are here today because you show promise of continued excellence as counseling students and practitioners.”

The 2021 inductees into Alfred University’s chapter of Chi Sigma Iota are: Maria Bentley of Hornell, NY; Sage Brown of Cortland, NY; Andy Cornielle of The Bronx, NY; Madison Curtis of Parkton, MD; Isabella Ehms of Buffalo, NY; Abigail Hurley of Barrington, RI; Taetum Leffingwell of Albion, NY; Lareesa McFall of Horseheads, NY; Karson Richenberg of Byron, NY; Carina Rodriguez of Wayland, NY; and Isabella Wood of Peekskill, NY.

Founded at Ohio University in 1985, Chi Sigma Iota is the international honor society of professional counseling. It was established to provide recognition for outstanding achievement as well as outstanding service within the profession. The CSI colors reflect its mission and values: white for virtue, blue for trustworthiness and integrity.
