Alfred University's Harald Bode project evolves, expands into current "The Art of the Sound Physiker; a Conversation about Harald Bode," hosted by Germany's ZKM museum
The Center for Art and Media (Zentrum fur Kunst und Medien), located in Karlsruhe, Germany, recently hosted “The Art of the Sound Physiker; a Conversation about Harald Bode,” the latest installment of a project that began in the mid-1990’s at Alfred University’s School of Art and Design.

Born in 1909, in Hamburg, Bode was an engineer and pioneer in the development of electronic musical instruments. Additionally, he is the father of Peer Bode, former Professor of Video Arts and co-director/co-founder of the Institute for Electronic Arts at SOAD.
Harald Bode archival tape transfers initially were overseen by Andrew Deutsch, Alfred University Professor Sonic and Video Art. The Bode project expanded into a larger undertaking directed by Joseph Scheer, Alfred University Professor or Printmaking, followed by two Harald Bode exhibitions and additional articles on Bode in the online journal EContact, edited by Rebekkah Palov.
Eventually, 24 boxes of Harald Bode archival materials were delivered to the ZKM in 2020, leading to the recent “Art of the Sound Physiker,” which ZKM released to celebrate its Harald Bode archive.
