Alfred resident Nathan Grove to present in Environmental Speakers Series at Alfred University

Nathan Grove, a resident of Alfred and a current junior at Amherst College majoring in geology and English, will present at next week’s Environmental Studies Speakers Series. The virtual presentation—titled “Matanuska Glacier: A Complicated Hunk of Ice”—is scheduled for 12:20 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1.


ALFRED, NY – Nathan Grove, a resident of Alfred and a current junior at Amherst College majoring in geology and English, will present at next week’s Environmental Studies Speakers Series. The virtual presentation—titled “Matanuska Glacier: A Complicated Hunk of Ice”—is scheduled for 12:20 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1.

The presenters in the Fall 2021 semester Environmental Studies Speakers Series have a connection to Alfred University or the Alfred area. Grove is the son of Allen Grove, professor of English at Alfred University, and Amy Jacobson, senior director of advancement in the University’s Advancement Office. He is a 2019 graduate of Alfred-Almond Central High School.

Last summer, Grove served as a tour guide at the Matanuska Glacier, located approximately 100 miles northeast of Anchorage, AK. At 27 miles long and four miles wide, it is the largest glacier accessible by car in the United States and is a popular tourist destination.
