Bird population topic of Bergren Forum talk by Alfred University professor Frederic Beaudry
Frederic Beaudry, professor of environmental science at Alfred University, will give a presentation titled “Counting Birds at 45, 68, and 71° North (And in Between)” at the Sept. 16 Bergren Forum at Alfred University.
ALFRED, NY – Frederic Beaudry, professor of environmental science at Alfred University, will give a presentation titled “Counting Birds at 45, 68, and 71° North (And in Between)” at the Sept. 16 Bergren Forum at Alfred University.
The Bergren Forum, sponsored by the Division of Human Studies, is held at 12:10 p.m. each Thursday the University is in session. The Bergren Forum is being offered virtually via Zoom and will return to an in-person format once the university considers this sufficiently safe. Overall North American bird populations have experienced a staggering 30-percent loss since 1970, with many species experiencing much steeper declines. As part of a national effort to better understand bird population dynamics, Beaudry has been conducting bird surveys in Washington and Alaska. At Thursday’s Bergren Forum, he will share the thrills and challenges of field work under the Cascades’ towering conifers and on the remote Arctic coastal plain.
