Outdoor educator Zachary Edwards to give talk in Environmental Speakers Series

ALFRED, NY – Zachary Edwards, an outdoor educator based in the Adirondack Mountains in New York State, will present at next week’s Environmental Studies Speakers Series. The virtual presentation—titled “Discovering Personal Potential in the Outdoor Space”—is scheduled for 12:20 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22.

The presenters in the Fall 2021 semester Environmental Studies Speakers Series have a connection to Alfred University or the Alfred area. Edwards is the son of Stephen and Pat Edwards, formerly of Alfred Station, and a 2008 graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School. He is the son-in-law of Nancy Evangelista, former associate provost and dean of the College of Professional Studies at Alfred University, and Joseph Dosch, a former Village of Alfred trustee.

After receiving a B.S. in biological engineering from Cornell University in 2012, Edwards began a career with Outward Bound leading wilderness expeditions and team building programs across the United States.  He has served as an instructor, course director, and staff trainer for the program, teaching a broad range of courses from the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California to the city parks of Philadelphia.  Edwards has also worked as a trail crew leader with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation managing a team in the construction of a new, sustainably designed trail on Mt. Van Hoevenberg.
