Water resource specialist Catherine Rees will present in Environmental Speakers Series

Catherine Rees, a water resource specialist and Alfred resident, will present at next week’s Environmental Studies Speakers Series. The virtual presentation—titled “Promoting Safe Water Resources in Rural Communities”—is scheduled for 12:20 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5.
ALFRED, NY – Catherine Rees, a water resource specialist and Alfred resident, will present at next week’s Environmental Studies Speakers Series. The virtual presentation—titled “Promoting Safe Water Resources in Rural Communities”—is scheduled for 12:20 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5.
The presenters in the Fall 2021 semester Environmental Studies Speakers Series have a connection to Alfred University or the Alfred area. Rees has been resident of the Town of Alfred since 1987.
Rees has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and a master’s degree in environmental health, both from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a water resource specialist with RCAP Solutions, a national network of non-profit organizations working to provide technical assistance, training, resources, and support to rural communities. Rees has been with RCAP for more than 15 years, rejoining the agency in 2018 after 10 years with the New York State Department of Health.
During her tenure with RCAP, Rees has provided technical assistance to small, rural water and wastewater systems; completed many successful funding applications to multiple funding agencies; interacted with state and federal agencies on behalf of rural communities; facilitated public participation and educational activities; conducted income and needs assessment surveys; and trained water operators and managers.
