ALFRED, NY – Alfred University alumna Martha Buckwalter-Davis ’06, an Ireland-based geochemist, will present at the Environmental Studies Speakers Series on Friday, Nov. 12. The virtual presentation—titled “End of Waste and the Circular Economy – Recycled Concrete Aggregates in Ireland”—is scheduled for 12:20 p.m.

The presenters in the Fall 2021 semester Environmental Studies Speakers Series have a connection to Alfred University or the Alfred area. Buckwalter-Davis grew up in Alfred and is the daughter of Alfred Station residents John and Laurel Buckwalter. She earned dual bachelor’s degrees in geology and environmental studies from Alfred University in 2006.

After studying the effects of acid rain on the Adirondacks while a student at Alfred University, Buckwalter-Davis became interested in acid rock drainage and metal leaching issues for the mining industry while living in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and earned a master’s degree in environmental geochemistry at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, in 2013.  That same year she moved to Ireland where she now works for Golder Associates as a geochemist studying environmental impacts and management of complex waste streams, including mining waste, recycled aggregates, and contaminated soils/water.

Friday’s presentation will be offered via Zoom. Please contact Shannon Yocum for the Zoom link.
