Alfred University to host virtual talk on International Year of Glass

Dr. Manoj Choudary, who is leading efforts to coordinate activities in the United States and Canada relating to the International Year of Glass, will give a virtual talk hosted by Alfred University on Thursday, Jan. 27, as part of the Inamori School of Engineering Graduate Seminar.


ALFRED, NY – Dr. Manoj Choudary, who is leading efforts to coordinate activities in the United States and Canada relating to the International Year of Glass, will give a virtual talk hosted by Alfred University on Thursday, Jan. 27, as part of the Inamori School of Engineering Graduate Seminar.

Choudary, who is chair of the International Year of Glass (IYOG) North American Steering Committee, will discuss plans for the IYOG celebration. Last year, the United Nations General Assembly approved designating 2022 as International Year of Glass. Activities in observance of IYOG are also being planned on the Alfred University campus.

A retired member of the senior technical staff for Owens Corning’s Science and Technology Center in Granville, OH, Choudary was the recipient of the 2018 Samuel Scholes Lecture Award from Alfred University. He has presided over several organizations including the International Commission on Glass (ICG), Center for Glass Research at Alfred University, the Glass and Optical Materials Division of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS), and the Glass Manufacturing Industry Council, of which he was also a founder.

Choudhary, who earned his Doctor of Science degree in materials science and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is a Fellow of the British Society of Glass Technology, and a Fellow of the ACerS. A registered professional engineer in the state of Ohio, he worked at Owens Corning’s Science and Technology Center from 1982 to until his retirement in 2018.
