Alfred University fourth-year student Kirstin VanRenselaar recently captured acting honors at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival’s Region 2 competition. VanRenselaar was honored for her work in classical acting.

VanRenselaar won the KCACTF Region 2 award based on three video submissions:

She performed and videotaped a monologue by the Bishop of Carlisle in Shakespeare’s Richard II; she performed on the Zoom platform a monologue of Polonius from Shakespeare’s Hamlet; and she performed as Falstaff, also on the Zoom platform, in a scene from Henry IV Part 1. The latter scene was performed with her acting partner, Kylee Tuckfield, a student at the University of Utah.

This is the second consecutive year VanRenselaar’s acting has been honored by KCACTF.

She currently is working on her senior project for Alfred University, is which she will serve as assistant director for a spring theater production by the Division of Performing Arts, School of Art and Design. She expects to graduate at the end of the Fall 2022 semester, majoring in Theater and History with a minor in education.

Following graduation, she hopes to teach history at the high school level and incorporate theater and acting into her history classes.
