Alfred University inducts 10 into Chi Sigma Iota counseling honor society

Ten graduate students in Alfred University’s Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling programs have been welcomed as new members of Chi Sigma Iota, the international counseling honor society.


ALFRED, NY – Ten graduate students in Alfred University’s Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling programs have been welcomed as new members of Chi Sigma Iota, the international counseling honor society.

At a ceremony held Tuesday, April 26, the students were inducted into Alpha Upsilon Xi, Alfred University’s chapter of Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society International (CSI). Chapter Faculty Advisors Kevin Curtin, associate professor of counseling, and Angeline Felber, assistant professor of counseling, presided over the induction ceremony and were assisted by chapter officers and counseling students Abigail Hurley and Madison Curtis.

Curtin acknowledged chapter members hard work and emphasis on community outreach, family advocacy, and wellness research. Jay Cerio, dean of the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies, delivered the keynote address. Cerio commented on how impressed he was with the chapter’s community activism, stating, “I have always considered social activism and advocacy to be important functions of counselors.”

The 2022 Alfred University’s Chi Sigma Iota chapter inductees are: Kristin Beck of Alfred Station, NY; Molly Carpenter of Olean, NY; Katey Cisneros of Garnerville, NY; Stephanie Cole of Hannibal, NY; Courtney Formosa of Waterford, NY; Amruta Kulkarni of Hornell, NY; Molly Maloney of Elmira, NY; Katelyn McCabe of Lindenhurst, NY; Carmen Schiralli of Bolivar, NY; and Taylor Winchell of Allentown, NY.

Founded at Ohio University in 1985, Chi Sigma Iota is the international honor society of professional counseling. It was established to provide recognition for outstanding achievement as well as outstanding service within the profession. The CSI colors reflect its mission and values: white for virtue, blue for trustworthiness and integrity.
