ALFRED, NY – Artwork by professor of ceramic art Linda Sikora and three alumni of Alfred University’s School of Art and Design is featured in an exhibition which opened Friday, May 13, at the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC.

The show, titled “The Present Moment: Crafting a Better World,” will be on view through April 2, 2023. It also features work by Alfred University alumni Cristina Cordova ’02, M.F.A.; Alicia Eggert ’09, M.F.A.; and Steven Young Lee ’98, B.F.A, ’04, M.F.A.

The exhibition showcases the dynamic landscape of American craft today. The exhibition highlights the role that artists play in our world to spark essential conversations, stories of resilience, and methods of activism—showing us a more relational and empathetic world. It centers more expansive definitions and acknowledgments of often-overlooked histories and contributions of women, people of color, and other marginalized communities.
