Casey Boston ’20 to oversee workshop addressing mental health issues in the Black community

Alfred University alumnus Casey Boston ’20, a social worker in Brooklyn, NY, is facilitating a workshop which will discuss the affect mental health issues have on the Black community.


Alfred University alumnus Casey Boston ’20, a social worker in Brooklyn, NY, is facilitating a workshop which will discuss the affect mental health issues have on the Black community.

The workshop, “Break the Cycle: Mental Health in the Black Community,” will be offered July 21, from 6-8 p.m. at the Prince Joshua Avitto Community Center in Brooklyn, NY. Visit this link for more information and to register to attend.

A native of Brooklyn, Boston earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Alfred University in 2020 before earning a master’s degree in social work from Binghamton University in May. His workshop will address such topics as emotional intelligence, managing emotions, and destigmatizing mental health. Food and refreshments will be provided at the workshop. In March, Boston presented a TEDx Talk at Binghamton University titled "Break the Cycle of Community Violence." He talked about his experiences with community violence, the negative effects of community violence, protective factors, and important steps toward healing.

Boston recently left Children’s Home of Wyoming Conference in Binghamton, where he served as a community-based social work provider, to return to Brooklyn, where he will begin work as a clinical social worker providing mental health therapy for adolescents and young adults with trauma, substance use disorders, depression, and other mental illnesses.
