Margeaux L. Margeaux L. Claude, MFA graduate 2022 from the Division of Ceramic Art, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, has received a second Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award for the 2022-2023 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Fulbrighters engage in cutting-edge research and expand their professional networks, often continuing research collaborations started abroad and laying the groundwork for forging future partnerships between institutions.

Claude was awarded her first Fulbright Scholar award in the 2019-2020 academic year. She will conduct independent research at the Hungarian Parliament Building in Budapest, and collaborate with the architectural restoration firm ALAKart. The Fulbright grant period will culminate with a residency at the International Ceramics Studio (Hungary) where she will develop new works reflecting on her archival research and partnerships with contemporary architectural restoration. This builds on her ongoing research, “at the intersection of ceramic design, industrial manufacturing, and craft”.

Claude writes, “The Hungarian Parliament building is one of the most thoroughly documented structures that spans nearly 120 years of Hungarian history.” “At this world heritage site, the focus will be on learning from drawings, plans, and communication between the Zsolnay ceramic factory and other makers.”

Margeaux is among over 800 U.S. citizens who will conduct research and/or teach abroad for the 2022-2023 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program.

Upon returning to their home countries, institutions, labs, and classrooms, Fulbright award winners share their stories and often become active supporters of international exchange, inviting foreign scholars to campus and encouraging colleagues and students to go abroad. As Fulbright Scholar alumni, their careers are enriched by joining a network of thousands of esteemed scholars, many of whom are leaders in their fields. Fulbright alumni include 61 Nobel Prize laureates, 89 Pulitzer Prize recipients, and 40 who have served as a head of state or government.
