Art Walk set for Thursday, July 21

The Alfred Art Walk for July is set for Thursday, July 21, from 5 to 8 p.m.

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred Art Walk for July is set for Thursday, July 21, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Alfred Art Walk, held the third Thursday of each month, is a collaborative monthly venture created by galleries in the village of Alfred and on the campuses of Alfred University and Alfred State College. Visit the Alfred Art Walk website for more details.

Open venues include the Alfred Arts Studio at the West, Alfred Ceramic Art Museum, Fosdick-Nelson Gallery, Robert C. Turner Gallery and the Cohen Gallery where at 6pm Adrian Aguilera, BIPOC Resident Artist will give an artist talk as part of Alfred Summer Arts. Adrian is a multi-disciplinary artist and his work mainly focuses on our relationship with physical and cultural spaces in which we (co)exist.

The goal of Alfred Art Walk is to foster dialogue within the local arts communities and to support local artists and galleries, highlighting Alfred as an arts destination. Alfred University’s School of Art and Design is collaborating with the Alfred University Inamori School of Engineering for the July 21 Art Walk.

Those attending Art Walk are also encouraged to visit the Paul Vickers Gardner Glass Center in Binns-Merrill Hall for an exhibit titled “Magic, Music, and Muscles of Glass.” The exhibit—which includes a 3,500-year-old necklace from the tomb of King Tut; glass made by animals and other natural glasses; a display illustrating how glass engineers/scientists create magical effects in glass and life-saving products; and a demonstration of Exploding Drops of Rupert’s Glass—is part of Alfred University’s observance of 2022 International Year of Glass, as designated by the United Nations.

Visitors leaving the Paul Vickers Gardner Glass Center can take a two-minute stroll to the second floor of the Science Center to view life-size castings created by Stephen Edwards, Alfred University emeritus professor of glass art.
