Former student of Alfred University music professor Lisa Lantz performs at Heifetz Festival of Concerts

Violinist Isabel Metz, daughter of Alfred University professor of Ceramic Art Linda Sikora and Matthew Metz of Alfred Station, NY, recently performed at the Heifetz 2022 Festival of Concerts in Staunton, VA.


ALFRED, NY – Violinist Isabel Metz, daughter of Alfred University professor of Ceramic Art Linda Sikora and Matthew Metz of Alfred Station, NY, recently performed at the Heifetz 2022 Festival of Concerts in Staunton, VA.

The Heifetz 2022 Festival of Concerts, which began June 30 and concludes on Saturday, Aug. 6, is a competitive summer program for young string players sponsored by the Heifetz International Music Institute and hosted by Mary Baldwin University. Isabel, 13, participated in the Saturday, July 30, Junior Division Showcase IV, which featured the Institute’s Junior Division performers, ages 9-15.

Isabel started playing violin as a 5-year-old in the Twinkle class taught by Lisa Lantz, Alfred University professor of music, and went on the play in the Alfred University Junior Strings Orchestra and Alfred University Orchestra, both under Lantz’s direction. She has studied privately under Eugenia Metzler and Augusto Diemecke, concertmaster of the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes (OSFL). Isabel won the OSFL-sponsored Hertzog Concerto Competition, held in June in Horseheads, NY,  and will be playing as a soloist with the OSFL on March 5, 2023 at the Clemens Center in Elmira, NY.

Beginning this fall, Isabel will be a scholarship student at Walnut Hill School of the Arts in Natick, MA, where she will have lessons and perform in orchestra weekly at the New England Conservatory in Boston.
