Alumnus Glenn Guzi ’91 ’92 recalls friendship with Queen Elizabeth, Windsor family.

PEEKSKILL, NY – Among the millions mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Alfred University alumnus Glenn Guzi ’91, ’92, is recalling his friendship with the Queen and the Windsor family from his home in Peekskill.

Guzi became friendly with the Windsors when he lived in London following his graduation from Alfred University, with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1991 and a master’s degree in community services administration in 1992. He currently works for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as Assistant Director.

He talked about his friendship with the Queen and the Windsor family during an interview with Westchester News 12 which aired Thursday, Sept. 8.

Following his sojourn in London, Guzi became the Windsors’ unofficial tour guide whenever members of the family visited New York City. In the aftermath of the 2001 terrorist attacks, he escorted Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip to the World Trade Center site, where the new Freedom Tower was being erected. In 2016, Queen Elizabeth made him an honorary member of the United Kingdom’s Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

“Apparently, she had felt that the work I’ve done in support of the U.S. and the U.K. relationship was significant enough that she wanted to say thank you,” Guzi told News 12, Westchester.

Queen Elizabeth II “had a very unique ability to make everyone feel at ease,” Guzi said. “Her reign wasn’t about her. She never made it about her. It wasn’t about her wants, her needs, desires. It was about dignity, and duty, and virtue.”
