October 7 - 14 Robert C. Turner Gallery Come OUt... Come Out... Wherever Your Are QuAC (Queer Art Collective) commemorates the work of queer artists and the fight for LGBTQIA liberation. The exhibition will take place on the anniversary of the historical, "Great Marches," in Washington D.C in the late 1970s.

The National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights was a large political rally that took place in Washington, D.C. on October 14, 1979. The first such march on Washington, it drew between 75,000 and 125,000 gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender people, and straight allies to demand equal civil rights and urge the passage of protective civil rights legislation.

The exhibition will open on October 7th at 6 pm followed by a queer comedy show at 8pm in Holmes Auditorium.

Compassion in Action: An Exhibit of Work by Sharon Kagan curated by Maureen Weiss, Associate Professor, Performance, Design & Technology.

The exhibition is comprised of three interlocking components; "The Undoing: Forgiveness" a video/performance, "Release Me" a durational performance, and "The Red Lotus—To Witness, To Release" a participatory installation.

Kagan will be on campus performing "Release Me" from October 10-14th from 10 am to 3 pm in the Miller Performing Arts Scenography Gallery. Kagan will also be the feature speaker for the Wednesday Night Speaker Series on Wednesday, October 12 at 7pm. The show will remain up through December 9th.

October 13 7:30pm Holmes Auditorium Phantom of the Opera Silent Film Concert Just in time for Halloween: Internationally renowned theatre organist and silent film accompanist, Dennis James will appear in concert. For over fifty years Dennis James has played a pivotal role in the international revival of silent films screened with historically authentic, fully researched and stylistically preserved live music performances. The 1925 silent film “Phantom of the Opera” starring Lon Chaney will be performed for a frightfully entertaining evening. This is a free public event is sponsored by the Music Department with funds from the Herrick Gallman Performing Arts Fund.

October 14 11am 2nd floor Harder Hall IDEA Lab Book Club Series Select pages from the anthology This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color, edited by activists Cherríe Moraga and Gloria E. Anzaldúa. Each meeting  features different passages and portions of literature that center on themes of intersectionality and radical leftist liberation movements.

October 14 2pm Sceongraphy Gallery Miller Performing Arts Center The Unravelling Party Artist Reception for Sharon Kagan. Sharon Kagan will conclude her durational performance piece with an unravelling. Please join us in celebrating her week long residency in the gallery with a discussion. Light food and beverage will be served.
