Upcoming Exhibitions and Opportunities at the Turner Gallery

The Robert C. Turner Gallery in Harder Hall's McGee Pavilion launches the fall semester exhibition series with two exhibitions opening on Sept. 9. "Ground Play:2022 Summer Intern Showcase" opens on the main floor, while on the catwalk, "Invasive", features an exhibition of work by senior Ellie Gamble.


The Robert C. Turner Gallery in Harder Hall's McGee Pavilion launches the fall semester exhibition series with two exhibitions opening on Sept. 9. "Ground Play:2022 Summer Intern Showcase" opens on the main floor, while on the catwalk, "Invasive", features an exhibition of work by senior Ellie Gamble.

"Ground Play" is an exhibition of work made over the summer by Alfred’s summer art interns from the ceramics, painting, and sculpture departments. "Invasive" explores the topic of invasive species in the United States through a variety of print media.

Upcoming exhibitions in the gallery include "Hold My Body, Hold My Breath" a solo exhibition by senior Avery Smith opening on Sept. 23. Exhibition description: "Hiraeth: a vague and constant desire for something that never existed or has been lost; to feel a deep incompleteness and recognize it as familiar; the love that stays after something has been taken. 'Hold My Body, Hold My Breath' is an exploration of childhood grief, loss, and the urning for home through fiber-based media and poetry."

Two upcoming Open Calls for work:

"Come Out... come Out... wherever You Are!" exhibition by the Queer Art Collective (QuAC) seeking submissions from queer artists in the Alfred community for an exhibition honoring the anniversary of the first marches in Washington, DC for queer parental rights. All are welcome to submit work(s) that focus on queer expression/feature queer artists. Apply Submissions are due at least one week prior to the exhibition opening - Due Sept. 30.

Open Call Photography Exhibition is an open call for digital and film photography. The exhibition will run October 21 - 28. Apply by email.

Main Space: "Hold My Body, Hold My Breath"

Catwalk: title TBD Printed works on paper and canvas, ranging and techniques of wood blocking, lithography, etchings and mono print Ing. Prints and drawings will be displayed on walls, books displayed on pedestals and one piece of projected film showcasing books being read.

The Robert C. Turner Gallery in Harder Hall is a Student- Run / Student - Envisioned Exhibition space on the Alfred University campus. The mission at the student-run Robert C. Turner Gallery, under the auspices of the School of Art and Design at Alfred University, is to serve as a forum for the professional and experimental display of student artwork, organized by students, for everyone.

In keeping with the educational goals of the School of Art and Design, the Robert C. Turner Gallery seeks to provide a forum for current, innovative and relevant ideas in art; to facilitate non-curricular as well as curricular learning; to establish local, regional, and global connections; and to maintain a student run professional gallery space driven by creative and conceptual freedom.
