Oct. 20 Bergren Forum to explore Freedom of Information Law

Alfred University’s Oct. 20 Bergren Forum will be delivered by Ted Forsyth ‘03, an alumnus of Alfred University and an adjunct professor of Criminal Studies. Forsyth’s lecture will address Freedom of Information laws: “The Power of FOIL: Using NYS's Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) as a (Criminal Justice) Research Tool.”


Alfred University’s Oct. 20 Bergren Forum will be delivered by Ted Forsyth ‘03, an alumnus of Alfred University and an adjunct professor of Criminal Studies. Forsyth’s lecture will address Freedom of Information laws: “The Power of FOIL: Using NYS's Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) as a (Criminal Justice) Research Tool.” Forsyth will explore how FOIL can be used to gather data around different research interests, including economics, politics, criminal justice issues, and health data. After exploring some of his current work, he will conclude with tips for those interested in pursuing the use of FOIL as a research tool.

The Bergren Forum is sponsored by the Division of Human Studies and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and will be held in-person from 12:10- 1:00 p.m. on Thursdays in Nevins Theatre, Powell Campus Center. Attendees are invited to bring a brown bag lunch. Coffee and tea will be provided. For those not able to make it to Nevins, there is a Zoom link, which will be the same each week.
