Alfred University marketing club organizes toy drive to aid Hornell families

Alfred University students in the Alfred Marketing Association (AMA) have organized the second annual Toy Drive, which will bring gifts to Hornell families during the holiday season.

New toys can be placed in collection bins through Tuesday, Nov. 22. The bins are located on the second floor of Powell Campus Center, near the Public Safety Office; on the main floor and fourth floor of the Olin Building; and on the main level of Jordan Hall. After Nov. 22, toys will still be accepted until Friday, Dec. 2, on the fourth floor of Olin.

Wrapped gifts, each displaying a QR code which provides more information on the Toy Drive, are on display across campus.

Jennalyn Conley, a senior marketing major, helped organize the Toy Drive, in partnership with the Hornell Community Outreach Group. She said Alfred University’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee is participating in the effort by organizing a competition among the various athletic teams. The team that secures the most toy donations will win $150 and a pizza party.

Conley said donated toys do not need to be wrapped, but they should be new and unused. Collected toys will be given to the Hornell Community Outreach Group for distribution to Hornell families on Dec. 12.

In addition to donated toys, Toy Drive organizers are accepting cash donations, which will be used to purchase new toys. Donations via Venmo — using this link — are being accepted through Dec. 2.

The AMA’s inaugural Toy Drive, held in 2021, resulted in more than 650 toys collected and distributed in the Hornell area. The cheerleading and softball teams were named co-winners of the sports team competition, with each team collecting nearly 200 toys.
