Confucius Institute at Alfred University organizes Conference of Chinese Immersion Programs

The Sixth International Conference of Chinese Immersion Programs, organized by the Confucius Institute at Alfred University (CIAU), was held online on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11 and 12.


There were 508 participants from 36 countries and regions on five continents registered for the conference, during which experts, scholars, professors, and teachers shared their latest research results in Chinese language education from different research perspectives and fields.

Dr. Beth Ann Dobie, Alfred University provost and chief operating officer; Vice President of China University of Geosciences, Dr. Xulong Lai; and Robert Stein, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Alfred University, gave welcoming addresses at the opening session of the conference. 

Six top experts from the United States, China, and Canada gave keynote speeches for the conference. After review by the academic committee, 50 papers were selected for the conference this year. Paper presenters are from nine different countries and regions: the United States, China, Canada, Britain, Hungary, Bulgaria, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Macau. 

 “We thank Alfred University and China University of Geosciences for their support, thank the Academic Chair, Professor Wenying Zhou and Co-chair Professor Jijun Yu for their contributions, thank CIAU team members for their hard work and dedication, and thank Mari Hammond of Alfred University Information Technology Services for the technical support,” said Daisy Wu, director of the Confucius Institute at Alfred University and co-chair of the conference. “After six years of hard work, our conference has become an important academic exchange platform for global Chinese education. We are so proud to see scholars and educators from around the world gathered virtually at Alfred University for the academic exchanges.”
