Softball contest between Saxon women's softball team and faculty/staff nets toys for annual toy drive

Members of Alfred University’s faculty, staff and student communities faced off against each other recently on the softball diamond, contributing their athletic prowess to the University’s annual toy drive organized by the College of Business.

Faculty and staff formed a softball team to play against the Alfred University’s varsity women’s softball team, with members of each team bringing toys to donate to the holiday project. According to Saxon softballer Meghan Neto, a second-year Business student, between 35 and 40 toys were collected.

Southern Tier weather forced the seven-inning game indoors at the Joyce and Walton Family Center for Health and Wellness. The game turned into a squeaker, with the faculty-staff squad edging the Saxon women 13-12.

Alfred University’s toy drive this year has been organized by the Alfred Marketing Association and spearheaded by Jennalyn Conley, a senior marketing major. The AMA partners with the Hornell Community Outreach Group in the annual toy campaign and in collected more than 650 toys for distribution in the Hornell area.
