Three current or former students of Mehdi Kabir, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, attended the recent International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition (IMECE) in Memphis, TN, where they presented a technical paper from a 2025 senior capstone research project. Kabir was co-author of the paper with mechanical engineering students Andrew Cisco, Dominic McKinney, Izaiah Smith, and Billy Moore. IMECE is the largest and most prestigious international mechanical engineering conference worldwide and is held annually by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Students Andrew Cisco (main presenter), Corey Field, and David Howe presented the accepted manuscript titled “Thermal Management of Small Satellites' Battery Module Using Micro/Nano-enhanced PCM-based Heat Sinks,” which is published in the ASME conference proceedings. Andrew, who earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in May 2025, was a co-author of the technical paper as part of his senior capstone project. Corey and David are current senior mechanical engineering majors, and the university brought them to conference in support of their senior capstone.

The technical paper was authored by Kabir and his former mechanical engineering students from Alfred University, including Andrew Cisco, Dominic McKinney, Izaiah Smith, and Billy Moore.
