ALFRED, NY –  Violinist Blanca Cecilia Gonzalez and guitarist Nilko Andreas Guarin will perform in concert at 7:30pm Saturday, Nov. 23 in Alfred University’s Miller Theater, bringing a unique blend of classical and Latin-American folk music to the University.  The concert is free and open to the public.

Gonzalez and Guarin have been on the Alfred University campus this week and Thursday presented a Bergren Forum in which they shared their knowledge of Latin-American and European folk music and its influence in the development of classical music.

They also performed today at the Wellsville High School in a Community Outreach Performance organized Alfred University’s Division of Performing Arts.

While this is been Guarin’s first visit to Alfred University, Gonzalez may be a familiar face, as she performed as First Violin with the MostArts International Orchestra during the 2019 MostArts Festival. A native of Bogata, Columbia, she has earned an international reputation as a musician of diverse musical styles and traditions. She currently lives in New York City with her husband, pianist Jesse Elder and their daughter.

As a classical guitarist, and also Columbia native, Guarin has been described as an “electrifying performer” in the aftermath of his 2009 debut in Carnegie Hall, in New York City. Like Gonzalez, he also maintains a deep commitment to Latin America composers and has performed in renowned international festivals such as the Cooperstown Music Festival, Vale do Café and Festival do Inverno do Petropolis, in Brazil.
