ALFRED, NY - Raul Barcenes, assistant professor of music at Alfred University, has been chosen to present at the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) Professional Development Conference next February.

The session-titled "Leading in a Culture that "Can't" Change: How to Successfully Navigate Your New Position Confidently Amongst Obstacles"-will be presented at the KMEA conference in Louisville Feb. 5.

"The session is geared toward teachers who find themselves in seemingly impossible situations," said Barcenes, referring to obstacles such as small budgets, extremely bad student behavior, administrative and parent problems, and low socio-economic environment. The presentation aims to help teachers "find strategies and ways to reframe their perspective and provide the best teaching possible for them."

Barcenes gave the same presentation during this past spring at the Maine Music Educators Association Conference and will also present it at this fall’s Nebraska Music Educators Conference. The Maine conference was held online due to COVID-19; the Nebraska conference will be held virtually as well.

The session was selected for all three conferences by peer review and acceptance.
