Alfred University ranked among top colleges and universities by U.S. News & World Report

U.S. News & World Report recently released its annual rankings of colleges and universities and Alfred University is among the institutions of higher education earning national and regional recognition.


ALFRED, NY – U.S. News & World Report recently released its annual rankings of colleges and universities and Alfred University is among the institutions of higher education earning national and regional recognition.

In its 2021 Best Colleges Rankings, released today (Monday, Sept. 14), U.S. News & World Report ranked Alfred University as having the number one-ranked Master of Fine Arts program in ceramic art in the country and the nation’s 10th-ranked M.F.A. program.

Alfred University was listed prominently in the regional rankings as well. Among regional colleges and universities in the North, Alfred ranked 45th overall and was 13th in the Best Values School listing and 36th in the Top Performers in Social Mobility category.

Best Value School rankings take into account academic quality and the net cost of attendance for students who receive the average level of need-based financial aid. Top Performers in Social Mobility rankings cite a school’s record for enrolling and graduating large proportions of economically disadvantaged students awarded Pell Grants.

The U.S. News & World Report accolades follow Alfred University being honored by Washington Monthly and the Princeton Review.

In its In its 2020 College Guide and Rankings, Washington Monthly ranked Alfred University 63rd on the list of Top Master’s Universities. The publication ranked 614 master’s universities, which it defined as four-year institutions that offer a significant number of master’s degrees. In addition, Alfred was one of just 157 colleges and universities in the country named to Washington Monthly’s 2020 Best Colleges for Student Voting Honor Roll. The list recognizes institutions for promoting student voting and civic engagement.

Alfred University was listed in Princeton Review’s 2021 Best 386 Colleges rankings. The publication said it selects honored institutions based on “our high opinion of their academics.” Other factors it takes into account include admissions, tuition and financial aid, student body, campus life, and job placement/careers. Alfred has been listed in Princeton Review’s Best Colleges rankings for 29 straight years.
