ALFRED, NY – The Alfred-Alfred Station Community Chest Board of Trustees this week announced it is opening its 2021 fundraising campaign with “profound thankfulness” for Alfred University Professor Emeritus Wes Bentz, who recently retired from the Board after nearly four decades of service.
“Wes was Mr. Community Chest in our community, doing any task that needed to be done, from contacting organizations, to stuffing envelopes, to hand delivering receipts to donors, to mailing out checks,” The Community Chest Board of Trustee said in a prepared release.
“His kind and generous manner showed itself in deliberations concerning organizations that forgot to mail in their request forms on time, but still needed and wanted funding. His expertise with the running of the organization will be sorely missed, but his retirement is well deserved. Thank you, Wes, for all you did for the community through your commitment to the Community Chest.”
The Alfred-Alfred Station Community Chest has set a goal of $30,000 for its 2021annual campaign. All charities funded give services in Alfred and Alfred Station. The top three charities funded are: A. E. Crandall Hook and Ladder Company’s ambulance service at $10,000, the Office for the Aging’s Personal Emergency Response System at $4,500 and the Alfred Station Fire Company at $4,000.
Twelve other charities supported by the campaign include: the Allegany County Mental Health Association ($2,000); Allegany County SPCA ($2,000); Hart Comfort House ($1,200); Association for the Blind and Visually Handicapped ($1,000); Literacy West ($1,000); Cub Scout Pack 1026 ($750); Boy Scout Troop 19 ($750); Alfred Area Food Pantry ($750); ARC Special Olympics ($500); Baker’s Bridge Historical Society ($400); Allegany-Cattaraugus-Chautauqua Fund for Women ($300); and Alfred Senior Nutrition Site ($200).
Fund raising will commence immediately and continue into the New Year. Members of the community will receive a mailing by US Post this week and are encouraged to mail in donations to AAS Community Chest, Post Office Box 603, Alfred, NY 14802.
