ALFRED, NY – Raul Barcenes, assistant professor of music at Alfred University, gave a presentation during a session of the Nebraska Music Educators Association (NMEA) Professional Development Conference.

The session—titled “Leading in a Culture that Can't Change: How to Successfully Navigate Your New Position Confidently Amongst Obstacles”—was presented virtually at the NMEA conference Nov. 7.

The session, selected from among several submissions, discussed "the challenges teachers face in environments of which are seemingly impossible to navigate and how to reframe your expectations to achieve success,” Barcenes said.

Barcenes had previously delivered the same presentation during the Maine Music Educators Association (MMEA) Conference this past spring and will present at the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) Professional Development Conference next February.

The session was selected for all three conferences by peer review and acceptance.
