The Alfred University “Reunion Bikers”, a group of alumni who spend the week preceding Reunion Weekend bicycling to Alfred, have announced initial plans for their return trip to campus this year.

The group chose Ithaca, NY as their peddle-off point and will spend a week, from July 31 to Aug. 6, traveling from Ithaca to Alfred. This year will mark the 13th time, including the inaugural bike ride in 1998, that the group will be pedaling to Alfred. The group also rode in 2008—the year of the Class of 1958’s 50th alumni reunion—before embarking on 10 consecutive trips from 2010-19. Due to COVID-19, there was no alumni reunion or bike ride held in 2020; the trip resumes this year in conjunction with the 2021 Reunion, which is planned for Aug. 6-8.

Ithaca is known for its gorges and waterfalls, with more than 100 within 10 miles of the city. Located in the heart of the Finger Lakes at the south end of Cayuga Lake, Ithaca is the home of Cornell University and Ithaca College. The bikers will be traveling Saturday, July 31, to the Ithaca area and spend three nights there before moving on to Mt. Morris, NY, for two nights (Aug. 3 and 4). While in Mt. Morris the cyclists will tackle the grueling Park Road in Letchworth State Park. A white water rafting trip is also planned along the Genesee River in the park gorge.

The bikers move on to the Hornell Best Western Thursday night, August 5. On Friday morning, Aug. 6, the group will celebrate with their “Victory Ride” from Hornell into Alfred with an anticipated arrival at the King Alfred Statue at noon.

The group welcomes students, alumni and friends to join us as we ride through your local area, or for part or all of our trip. The riders also enjoy having lunch or dinner with friends of the University throughout our travels.  Anyone interested in taking part in Friday’s “Victory Ride” that needs accommodations in Hornell is encouraged to make reservations soon as the area hotels quickly fill up.  Stay tuned for updates every few weeks.
