CERAMICS
I love that clay has the ability to take any shape, through many methods. Clay allows me to feel more connected to the earth and all its elements. Creating ceramics allows me to express my personal touch through every small movement.

Like many others at this time my body of work is a new experience for me, building on my prior knowledge of what it means to be a multidisciplinary artist. I have used this opportunity to explore hand built ceramics. Through this I’ve found that my preferred method of making is coil building. I am working with a grey stoneware which provides proper support when necessary, but still allows for intricate manipulations. My work has transformed from mostly functional pottery, into larger semi-functional vessels. My current pieces are moderately sized, ranging from 6"-13" in height. I also experiment with texture rich surfaces, from smooth to highly detailed. Throughout this exploration I hope to push the boundaries of my own creative process and learn how to accent my work using surface design.

PAINTINGS
In my paintings I use abstraction to approach themes of nature from an emotional perspective. Moods are expressed in my paintings by using the properties and materiality of paint to explore atmospheres, color gradients and gesture. This is further revealed through color relationships as well as techniques such as wet into wet painting or experimental processes. I think about my paintings as an extension of my emotional self and utilize the structure of the landscape as a way to explore these moods and atmospheres.

My current series of paintings of watercolors on hot and cold pressed papers create an immersive space. Each painting is 24" X 30", and tiled together create a larger than life installation. These paintings are little snippets of a sunrise or sunset; simultaneously revealing a synergy between abstraction, image and color. Directional line, color fields, texture, nature and pattern immerse the viewer into a space of vibrancy and happiness, as if enjoying a beautifully abstracted summer day.
