Transfer Application Process

Image of AU StudentAny student who has attempted completion of any post-secondary studies is considered a transfer student and should file a transfer student application.

The following checklist of required documentation is provided to assist you in completing your application for transfer admission to Alfred University. Complete an application form
  • Apply online with the Common Application
  • Contact the Admissions Office to have an application mailed or faxed to you.
  • International students transferring to Alfred University from another U.S. college or university must verify that they are in status. They must request that their current International Student Advisor complete an Alfred University Transfer Form and fax it to 607.871.2198.

Submit an application fee

  • The current application fee is $50(US).
  • Campus visitors receive an AU Application Fee Waiver certificate.

Request college transcripts

  • Official or certified transcripts are required from every institution you have attended, even if you withdrew before completing a semester.
  • International students must submit original or certified copies of all secondary and post-secondary transcripts or records of grades to- date and showing proof of graduation. These must be prepared and authorized by the student's home institution and be accompanied by a certified English translation.
  • International student records must be evaluated by either the World Evaluation Services organization (WES) or Education Evaluators International (EEI)
  • Alfred University only accepts credit from institutions accredited by one of the regional associations. Remedial or vocational courses cannot be applied toward an Alfred degree.

Request high school transcripts

  • Official high school transcripts must be submitted by your high school counselor or college advisor.
  • A notarized copy of a GED is also accepted.
  • International students must submit original or certified copies of all secondary and post-secondary transcripts or records of grades to- date and showing proof of graduation. These must be prepared and authorized by the student's home institution and be accompanied by a certified English translation.
  • International student records must be evaluated by either the World Evaluation Services organization (WES) or Education Evaluators International (EEI)

Submit a personal statement or essay

  • Your essay should describe why you are interested in transferring to Alfred University.

Request letter(s) of recommendation

  • We require at least one letter of recommendation from an advisor, faculty member, coach, etc.
  • Additional recommendations from work supervisors, pastors, etc. can be very helpful.

Request test scores

  • If you will transfer fewer than 30 credits you must have SAT or ACT scores sent to the Office of Admissions by the testing agency. Our institutional College Board code for the official scores are 2005.
  • International students are required to submit official scores from the SAT, the ACT, TOEFL, or IELTS examinations. Read more about required scores.

Art Portfolio
Applicants to the School of Art & Design are required to submit a portfolio of their work. Learn more about submitting an undergraduate art portfolio.
