In addition to the Alfred University application, all Performing Arts BFA applicants must submit a Wildcard and the Audition or Portfolio Requirements specific to their discipline.
Wildcard
This is your opportunity to share something unique about yourself. What inspires you? What excites you? What should we know about you beyond your application? This can take any form—whether it’s a special skill, a creative passion, or a glimpse into what drives you.
Examples
- Performing an original composition, song, poem, or dance
- Creating a Saturday Night Live-style skit
- Performing in a language other than English
- Playing an instrument or multiple instruments
- Making a how-to video on something you’re good at (baking, skateboarding, juggling, knitting, gardening, calligraphy, gymnastics, etc.)
- If you’re a dancer, showcasing your distinctive style (Modern, Jazz, African, Hip Hop, Ballet, etc.)
- Sharing a production book or project journal
- Sharing up to 4 pages of theatrical dialogue that you have written
- Sharing examples of theatrical designs you’ve created (costumes, sets, lights, props, etc.)
- An excerpt from a director’s portfolio
- Photos of visual art you’ve created
- A piece of non-theatrical creative writing you've written
- Sharing your artist website or online portfolio
- Cosplaying
