2019 Benefits Update

ITS & Procurement Services....We are here to help!

A friendly reminder, per Alfred University Policy, all computer and printer purchases must be approved by ITS. A link to the specific policy is listed below.

To guarantee that you have the best technology possible at your fingertips, we have a Technology Refresh Program available for both desktop and laptop computers (Mac and PC). If you sign up for the Technology Refresh Program, your computer will be replaced every three years with the latest technology. This also helps the University by making sure that out-of-date computers are removed from service.

We require the involvement of the ITS Team on the selection and purchase of this equipment for several reasons:

1. In today's world there is a constant stream of new threats out there trying to impact computer networks. By making sure that only approved devices are linked to our network, we are protecting the University as well as our students, faculty and staff.

2. The ITS team is here to help you with your devices. If you purchase something that is not approved for use, we may not be able to assist if you have problems.

3. By working with ITS, you have access to our extensive knowledge and business contacts that will ensure you are receiving the best price on equipment that will properly fit your specific needs.

4. We have purchasing contracts with Dell and Apple. By purchasing computers through ITS and procurement, we are ensuring that you get the best possible price on approved solutions. In addition, you are adding to the University's buying power when it comes time to re-negotiate contracts.

Please work with Procurement and ITS to ensure that you are getting the absolute best possible product at the absolute best possible price to meet all of your IT needs!

******Mock Interview Week February 11-15****Sign up on Handshake Today!

This is a whole week dedicated to perfecting your interviewing skills. Schedule one, two or five interviews with real employers. Get honest feedback and suggestions on what you might want to change or brush up on. Students are able to sign up for a 30 minute session with an employer M-F 9am-4pm. ** Students from last year were offered internships after meeting with employers to brush up on their skills**

To pick an interview date/time go into jobs then search Mock Interview Week and the date you want to interview, then apply to see available times. Pick your time and confirm.

Years of Service Recognition

We are in the final stretch now and still need about 180 pairs of shoes to reach our goal. Please check your closets to see if you have shoes to donate for the Navajo Water Project. MLK Community Dinner

The culmination of our Alfred University MLK Week 2019 activities will be the MLK Community Dinner and Keynote Presentation on Sunday, January 27 from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm in the Knight Club. This event is a wonderful way for our community to commemorate and celebrate the legacy of Dr. King and to recognize some of our community members for their service and share an important message and meal together.

Date: Sunday, January 27

Time: 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm (Mr. Prince will begin his Keynote Presentation at 6:15 pm, and we advise guests to arrive a bit early to find a seat.)

Location: Knight Club, Powell Campus Center


Dinner is by reservation only and limited to the first 110 individuals.

Our keynote speaker for this year is Mr. Steve Prince, Distinguished Artist in Residence at the Muscarelle Museum of Art and Director of Engagement at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. Mr. Prince is an artist born and raised in New Orleans, LA who combines spirituality, history, humor, and musical performance art to both entertain and educate audiences about social justice, community, and civic responsibility to one another and the broader community. The title of his Keynote presentation is "The Great Commission". Mr. Prince is an award winning artist who is the subject of a year long course at SUNY Geneseo based upon his art and social action work which will culminate in a published book within the next year. His work is widely regarded by both civic and academic colleagues, where he has been invited to produce works for municipalities, churches, and schools. Samples of his work can be found on the Eyekons Gallery website.

The evening dinner event will begin with a presentation and keynote by Steve Prince and be followed by a communal dinner and will include members of the Alfred community who volunteered in the day of service and our community partners.
