Starting March 22 Visitor Check Located at the Check-In Booth

Starting March 22 - Visitor Check In will be located at the Check-In Booth in the McLane parking lot.

Normal hours will be Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Any visitors coming outside of those hours are to check in at the Public Safety office. Saturday and Sunday will also be at the Public Safety office, weekend hours are 8:00 am - 3:00 am the following morning.

Employment Law Supervisor Training

This is the seventh training in a 9 part training series targeted at any AU employee who has supervisory roles in their department. This training can also be especially helpful for any staff who support the supervisors in their department.

This training will encompass: review of employment law that are applicable to Supervisors

Supervisors who may be new in their rolls or need a refresher are encouraged to come.

This training will be held on April 8, 2021 from 11:15am-12:00pm and on April 13, 2021 from 11:15am-12:00pm both online.

Charlie Best - IEA Artist in Residence

Charlie Best is an artist, teacher, and seamstrix. Their multidisciplinary practice has yielded experimental digital and analog media, performance, fiberwork, and works on paper. This practice is devoted to the visual and material culture of queer/trans lineage and life. Currently, he studies kids' PC games, found footage, and garment construction. Charlie is a white trans/nonbinary settler, born and educated on the lands of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy of Nations, specifically the Onöndowa'ga:', or Seneca Nation. (Buffalo, NY, Western New York, and the Southern Tier.) The Institute for Electronic Art's Experimental Projects Residency is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and the Schein-Joseph Endowment. Under COVID-19 protocols sadly any in-person engagements with students and IEA AIRs will not be possible.

Sign up for your 2021 Graduate Photo Sessions

To all 2021 Graduates (including December 2020, Allen Term 2021 and May 2021)

A professional photographer, Ria Tafani, will be on campus the week of April 12 - 16 to capture photos of graduating seniors to use in our virtual ceremony. These photos will be displayed as your dean reads your name at commencement. You have a few options of how you'd like to have your photo taken for this. You may have your photo taken with President Mark Zupan handing you your "diploma" (only the empty jacket at this point). Or you may have your photo taken with a mentor such as a dean, professor, staff or someone else who has influenced you throughout your time at Alfred.

The photographer will be set up in the Knight Club in the Powell Campus Center. There will be a selection of three backdrops for your photo. Please use this link to schedule your session:

You may want to decorate and wear your cap and tassel for these. The Bookstore will be sending out information soon on how and when to pick these up.

Please sign up for a time for your photo (reminder there are no classes on Wed. April 14). This schedule will allow 4 students to sign up for each 15-minute appointment. If you'd like your photo taken with someone other than Mark Zupan, you'll need to make arrangements for that person to meet you at the Knight Club.

For those who would like a copy of their photo, Ria will set up a gallery where the photos can be downloaded. If you chose a professional photo print through Ria, there will be a separate charge.

For graduates who cannot return to campus to have a photograph taken, you may submit your own photograph here: https://nextcloud.alfred.... and upload to the Commencement 2021 Photos file.

Streaming Gallery Tours

Take a video tour of the MFA Thesis exhibitions every Sunday from April 11 through May 9. Join the artists virtually as we tour their exhibitions. 1-3pm

Pending COVID restrictions, MFA exhibitions will be held on campus with limited in-person viewing. Faculty, staff and students in the School of Art & Design will be able to visit exhibitions during open hours. Family and visitors from outside the School of Art & Design will be able to view the exhibitions through this series of streaming and video tours.

Microsoft 365 Trainings Available from SUNY CPD

The SUNY Center for Professional Development is offering a series of trainings on Microsoft 365 applications. Training topics include: Microsoft Teams, One Drive, One Note, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Forms, and Creating Accessible Content.

All webinars are free but registration is required. Recordings will be available to attendees. On the Registration page, AU faculty and staff will click "SUNY Sign-in" and select "Alfred - Ceramics" from the campus list.

Saxon Strong Fitness Group - Online Fitness Sessions

The Alfred University Health Fitness Management students will be hosting Zoom workout sessions for Alfred University faculty, staff, students, and Alfred community beginning this week!
These sessions will include a variety of different workouts such as: cardio, yoga, HIIT, and stretching. The sessions will consist of a warm up, cool down, various exercises, and nutrition facts. Workouts will accommodate for skill and experience levels, along with consideration to space available in your home. Zoom classes will take place every Thursday from 11:30am-12:30pm and Sunday from 6:00-7:00pm from April 8th through April 25th.

From the Orphanage to the Boardroom

We have an incredible speaker Monday April 12 at 7:30 pm. Ed Hajim, former Chair of the University of Rochester Board of Trustees, will share life lessons from his experience growing up in an orphanage, to being a college student, to advancing to the highest levels on Wall Street.
