Campus-Wide Shred Event

The Office of Procurement Services is sponsoring a summer shredding event to be held on Wednesday, July 6th. The Shred-It truck will be parked in the Jordan Hall lot from 8AM until 12PM that morning. If you would like to take advantage of this event, please have your materials delivered to the Jordan Hall parking lot by no later than 11:30 AM that day. Physical Plant will also be able to assist offices that have several boxes of materials to be destroyed. Simply put in a work order by no later than July 5th, and they will make sure that it is taken down to the site. Here are some guidelines for the event: - Documents must be sensitive in nature. If they are not, then they do not require shredding and should be recycled instead. - Materials must be removed from binders and folders. - Materials may be stapled, but any binder clips, coils, etc., must be removed. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please call the Procurement Office at 2698.

Alfred Summer Arts Week 1

Alfred Summer Arts Workshop Week 1
Alfred Summer Arts 2022 features week-long arts workshops in a variety of media areas designed for participants working at all levels: artists, teachers, community members and visiting professionals.

go.alfred.edu/summerarts

Session 1: June 26-July 1

Augustine Uzor // Figure Painting

Investigate the fundamental language of painting the nude human figure using a variety of mediums and techniques while studying the figure as subject and narrative device. Through a series of observational projects, a wide range of painting possibilities will be explored. Work on building solid observational painting skills, developing critical dialogue with the figure, and learning the potentials for personal expression.

Patsy Rausch // From Rag to Relevance, Hand papermaking

Exploring the potentials of hand papermaking using the portable papermaking studio, participants hop on the bike and peddle pulp. A papermaking station (pulling & couching) including pulp printing, pulp painting, and 3D pulping potentials are included. The range of the medium from pulling sheets to pulp painting to pulp printing and sculpting, casts a wider net in the discipline and opens participants up to many unique and collaborative possibilities.

Rachel Davis // Shades of Blue: Indigo Dye, Shibori and Other Methods

This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to historical and contemporary practices using indigo dye. Learn how to prepare cotton and silk fibers for the dye vat, and how to build and care for an indigo vat: learning numerous shibori techniques, including sewn, clamped and paste resist methods, and have time to experiment freely with all of them. Studio experiments allow exploration of personal objectives in fiber and contribute to a collaborative work produced over the course of the week.

This program will feature 13 shorts films (all under 10 minutes!) that were showcased at the inaugural Light Matter Film Festival in November 2021. Light Matter will return with a second edition in Fall 2022. The program is representative of Light Matter's chief aim of bringing together contemporary experimental film and media art, highlighting work that ranges from hand-painted 16mm film, found footage, glitch, image-processing, and more. Each work also stands on its own, reflecting various artistic investigations into the people, objects, and environments that we inhabit. Come out to see experimental films and videos under the Alfred stars!
