This is the seventh training in a 9 part training series targeted at any AU employee who has supervisory roles in their department. This training can also be especially helpful for any staff who support the supervisors in their department.
This training will encompass: review of employment law that are applicable to Supervisors
Supervisors who may be new in their rolls or need a refresher are encouraged to come.
This training will be held on March 7, 2023 from 11:15am-12:00pm and on March 22, 2023 from 11:15am-12:00pm both online.

The AKO Leadership Awards, endowed by the Alpha Kappa Omicron sorority, are now taking applications! Both awards come with an honorarium that the awardees can spend at their own discretion.
The AKO Achievement Award is given to a woman in her sophomore year of study who demonstrates excellence in personal academic leadership. A 3.25 GPA is required as well as active membership in a student organization. Honorarium: $250.
The AKO Social Change Leadership Award is given to a woman in her junior year of study who has made efforts in positive change for the AU community. A minimum 3.00 GPA is required as well as demonstrated leadership in a student club or organization. Honorarium: $500.
To nominate a student, send their name, email, and major to Abigail Hurley ([email protected]) or simply encourage them to apply. Applications will be due by March 3rd. The link provided includes the application and award information.

It's time to nominate seniors for Alfred University's Marlin Miller Outstanding Senior honor. This award recognizes all-around accomplishment in scholarship (min. GPA 3.2), leadership, and character, our two honorees have the privilege of addressing their fellow graduates at commencement.

Perhaps Home is Not a Place
February 17 - March 22, 2023, Fosdick-Nelson Gallery
"Perhaps Home is Not a Place," curated by interdisciplinary artist Jonathan Christensen Caballero and Joey Quinones, assistant professor of sculpture, features nine BIPoC artists who work in a variety of media from fiber to ceramics to explore how bodies are seen or not seen, and how home is not always a physical place we inhabit.
The exhibition will open on February 17 with a reception 6-8 p.m., and will run through March 22. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays, 1-3 p.m. weekends, and will be closed during university breaks.

Prosperous Voyage: An exploration of drawing as a practice
Too often we view drawing as a means to an end, rather than a complete practice in itself. This voyage is an exercise in uplifting drawn works of art as a complete practice.

During the Month of February 2023 Alfred University School of Art and Design (SOAD) will host glass artists who hail from the afro diaspora. Each week an Artist working with glass will lead workshops and lecture on their work and experience.
Corey Pemberton (American b. Reston, VA 1990, Lives Los Angeles, CA) received his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2012. He has completed residencies internationally at institutions including The Pittsburgh Glass Center (PA), Bruket (Bod�, NO), and a fellowship at the Penland School of Crafts (NC). He currently divides his time between his painting studio and a production glassblowing team in LA.
Corey will give a demonstration on Thursday, February 16 2023 in the hot glass studio from 1:30-4pm followed by a public lecture in Binns-Merrill Hall 106 at 4:30pm
In 2021 Alfred University student Adeye Jean-Baptiste proposed an artist series with glass artists who hail from the afro diaspora. Finding support from the SOAD, the Sculpture Dimensional Studio Division, and from the local artists and community with a successful fundraising auction in the fall of 22.
The series is also supported by Olympic Color, a glassblowing supply company in Seattle, WA, who provided materials for the artists by Olympic Color.

Paul S. Briggs: Knot Stories, The Showcase Exhibition

At this link, students can apply for the AKO Leadership Awards of Spring 2023.

These awards are given to a sophomore woman and junior woman each spring. The AKO Achievement Award recognizes an AU sophomore woman who has demonstrated personal academic excellence and leadership and comes with a $250.00 honorarium for the recipient, to be spent at their discretion. The AKO Social Change Leadership Award recognizes an AU junior woman for her demonstrated leadership that has influenced positive change in the AU community.

Animator Jon Gillie's first solo show comprises a nine-screen installation at the TSI/Harland Snodgrass Gallery. Alfred University, NY.
Continuing his interest in figurative animation, the exhibition deconstructs the human form in a series of works describing both the physical and nonphysical states of being. The body as a series of transient motions, spatial coordinates, a sensory processor, and a corporeal form anchored by its own physical.
