Date: Tuesday, October 24
Time: 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Location: Nevins Theater
Panel discussion will focus on the following:
* Brief history or historical perspective
* Brief geopolitics
* Allow space for students, faculty, and staff to reflect on their emotional responses to this event.
Difficult conversations are almost never about getting the facts right. They are about conflicting perceptions, interpretations, and values. The single most important thing you can do is to shift your internal stance from "I understand" to "Help me understand."
The head, heart and conscience strategy will provide a helpful starting point for the conversation.
The moderator will share the following questions listed below with the panelists and ask them to choose one or more of the questions to respond to if they are comfortable. Audience members will be able to comment at specific moments.
Head: What information do we know about the attacks in Israel and Gaza and the declaration of war? What remains uncertain? What additional information would you like to have to help you understand the events better?
Heart: What emotions do these events raise for you? Are there particular moments, images, or stories that stand out to you? If so, why?
Conscience: Who is impacted by the crisis? How are people choosing to respond to what has occurred so far in this crisis, and why?
Create space where students can feel safe to process their reactions and are respectful of their peers.
What can we do if we are feeling vulnerable because of this attack?
How can we stand with and support others who are feeling vulnerable?
What are some meaningful actions we can take, even if only in our own home, community, or institutions?
The panel selection is still in the confirmation phase. However, please note the list will represent a great range of voices.
*This is not a rally but more of an educational experience where people can learn and have civil discourse.
